Become a Math Tutor
In order to become a Math Tutor, you must:
- Read the tutor position description
- Receive a 3.5 GPA or better in a college-level math course
- Complete an application
- After completing the application, email it to Dusty Wilson (dwilson@highline.edu) along with a screenshot of your unofficial transcript. We do not accept paper applications
- Get a teacher recommendation. Send this to your teacher by email. The teacher is to send it to Dusty Wilson (dwilson@highline.edu). Paper copies of recommendations will be accepted (email is preferred).
- Take the math skills test at the Math Resource Center. Wait until you have been contacted before coming in to take the skills test.
Additional Requirements
- Be available to attend tutor training from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Friday (for Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters) or on Thursday (for Summer quarter).
- Be able to work at least 4 hours a week (not including training)
- Be taking at least 6 credits at Highline College
Most applicants who score 80% or above on the math skills test will be contacted for an interview.
The Skills Test
The skills test covers a variety of topics up to Math 151 (Calculus 1). If you have not taken Math 151, make sure you indicate the highest level math course you have taken in the space provided at the top of the page.
